Motor Vehicle Accidents

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, our team at Millwoods Physical Therapy Centre can help you with pain and headache management, gaining early strength and  mobility and preventing complications like chronic pain and muscle disuse atrophy.

How can our Physiotherapists help you ?

The most common injury sustained in a motor vehicle accident is “whiplash”. Collectively, whiplash-associated disorders (WADs) refer to soft tissue and/or bone injuries sustained as a result of rapid acceleration and deceleration forces to the neck. Other areas of the body can also be affected with MVA. Basic manifestations of whiplash incorporate.

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Shoulder pain
  • Arm pain
  • Upper back pain
  • Headaches
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Visual or hearing problems
  • Difficulties speaking or swallowing

In Alberta, regardless of who is at fault for the accident, or if you were the driver or passenger, you are entitled to care for the injuries you sustained.

Our Physiotherapists are certified  in manual therapy, jaw pain treatment and concussion/vertigo management. When patients are in pain or unable to move, they often struggle to perform exercises effectively to relieve their symptoms. We often provide a multidisciplinary approach which not only includes exercise therapy but also manual therapy and soft tissue release treatment to reduce their pain and improve their mobility,

Education also forms an integral part of our treatment which includes knowledge of underlying injury, customized exercise prescription  to restore early range of motion and strength.

An early active care approach prevents chronic pain and also reduces the chances of getting trigger points which can bother you in long term.
